Answer: In an EI transformer, the magnetic flux must jump across air gaps at the joints of the "E" and "I" laminations, causing flux to "leak" into the surrounding environment as an electromagnetic hum. The T110 toroidal core is seamless and jointless, meaning the magnetic path is entirely contained within the ring. Furthermore, since the copper windings cover the entire core, they act as a natural shield, effectively "trapping" the magnetic field. This results in an 8:1 to 10:1 reduction in stray magnetic fields, which is essential for preventing noise interference in sensitive audio pre-amps, medical sensors, and high-gain circuits.
Answer: Because toroidal cores like the T110 have exceptionally high permeability and low remanence, they can draw a massive instantaneous surge current (up to 10-20 times the rated current) if the power is applied at the zero-crossing point of the AC cycle. For T110 units at the upper end of the power scale (e.g., 500VA), we recommend using a NTC Thermistor or a dedicated Soft-Start Circuit in series with the primary winding. This limits the initial current spike, prevents the nuisance tripping of circuit breakers, and protects the bridge rectifiers in the secondary DC stage.
